Overview

The Association of the Users research and educationalcomputer network in Kazakhstan“KazRENA” was registered on August 3, 2001 (certificate number 41688-1910-ULE) as a union of legal entities in the form of an association (noncommercial organization).

The purpose of the establishment and activities of the Associationis the coordination and unification of efforts of the Association members to promote the creation, development and use of a unified national research and educational computer network in Kazakhstanto improve the level of education and science and to develop the principles of the information society, the full-rightentry of the Republic of Kazakhstan into the global information space.

The Association is open to new members and operates in accordance with the shareholder's agreement.

The main purpose of the network is to provide the scientific and educational institutions with the following network information services based on Internet technologies: High-Speed Internet, a platform for distance learning, video conferencing, audio conferencing, IP-telephony, video telephony,exchange of video data and graphics, messaging, service exchange and storage of data users with the appropriate access, URL transfer between user terminals, connection to the electronic library of the universities and bases of educational resources,management and monitoring of the network names,service of administrating the network names and security policies, monitoring service of the status of the network resources etc.

Research and Education Network of Kazakhstan “KazRENA” provides the users with access to Kazakh and international scientific and educational electronic resources,to the Internet resources of common use.According to the draft of the European Commission, “The Central Asian Research and Education Network” (CAREN) plans to open up access to the resources of All-European research and education network GEANT in 2011.

The Association “KazRENA” is included in the Trans-European Research and Education Network (www.terena.org), from 2001 to 2010, it was a member of NATO scientific project “Virtual Silk Road” (www.silkproject.org) and since 2010, it has been participating in the European Commission “CAREN - The Central Asian Research and Education Network” (caren.dante.net).The Association supportsthe accompliceof the “Individual Partnership Action Plan NATO and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan” program in the sections of “Information Security of Computer Networks” and “New technologies of seismic monitoring” for 2011-2012.
